Add-On Services
ADD-ON SERVICES
For projects with intensive or challenging data management and sharing needs, RDMC offers add-on services, described below.
All fees for RDMC Add-on Services are estimates and are subject to change. Various factors can affect the total amount charged for services, including the volume of dataset files, technical complexity of file formats, specialized software requirements, special handling requirements for sensitive and/or proprietary data, and data quality.
Add-on services are offered pending staffing availability and may not be available during high-volume periods. Requests for services should be submitted well in advance of proposal submission deadlines.
For more information about these services or to obtain a cost estimate, please submit your request here.
Add-On Service Descriptions
UNC Dataverse Repository Customization
Project archive customization to create standardized data ingest workflows that must be followed by all researchers on the project team when they add data to the repository; this ensures that metadata remains consistently applied and that the quality of the published dataset align with FAIR principles for findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable data. Other customizations available include enhancements to the user interface, which will allow users to more easily discover, access, and use data. These types of enhancements include advanced Dataverse features such as project Dataverse homepage themes, metadata templates, guestbooks, user permissions configuration, and dataset review workflows.
Hourly recharge rate: $124.32
Hourly minimum: 4 hours
Data Management and Sharing Consultation
Consultation delivering project-specific guidance on DMSP implementation and sharing plan implementation requirements and needs. These consultations includes one-on-one sessions with RDMC data stewardship and data architecture experts to identify project-specific needs and deliver recommendations on how best to apply standards and best practices to your particular data set: data curation and quality review workflows; provisions for archival data storage and/or special data handling; and compliance with data use and sharing guidelines, including both funding agency requirements and FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) data standards.
Hourly recharge rate: $124.32
Hourly minimum: 20 hours
Data Curation
Execution of standards-based data curation workflows for data file packaging and repository ingest. These services may include file format normalization, document preparation, metadata generation, dataset package quality review, and transfer of dataset packages to the specified repository. RDMC data curation specialists design and carry out these activities with careful attention to the specific needs of your data set, including the type, format, size, and content, to ensure that data meet FAIR standards and satisfy all requirements of the DMSP.
Hourly recharge rate: $124.32
Hourly minimum: 8 hours (per dataset package)
Large-scale Data Archiving
Long-term archival preservation and access of data that exceed the 2TB allocation of the RDMC Basic Data Management Service. The RDMC data architecture team works with the project team to transfer and ingest large files into the UNC Dataverse system for preservation. The UNC Dataverse system includes redundant backup file storage and technical safeguards to prevent system failure and file corruption or loss.
Hourly recharge rate: $130.78
Hourly minimum: 4 hours
In addition to the Large-scale Data Archiving service fee, a required one-time charge for archival storage (covering the creation and storage of the primary copy and replication copy, and ongoing intelligent storage tier monitoring) will be billed separately. Archival storage cost estimates are based on file volume per terabyte beyond the 2TB allocation and the number of years in the retention period.
Archival storage fee: $516.00 per TB per year of retention
Minimum retention period: 5 years
Sensitive Data Repository Management
Data repository solutions designed for secure long-term preservation of sensitive data that require protections to prevent unauthorized access and use, such as personally identifiable information (PII) and protected health information (PHI). RDMC coordinates with UNC ITS, Office of University Counsel, Institutional Review Board, the Office of Clinical Trials, and other relevant campus units to ensure that repository solutions for sensitive data comply with UNC ITS Information Security Policy, applicable laws and regulations that govern the disclosure of PII/PHI (e.g., HIPAA, FERPA, Common Rule, 21 CFR Part 11), and prevailing data security standards (e.g., ISO 27701, NIST 800-171)
Hourly recharge rate: $129.07
Hourly minimum: varies based on requirements
Sensitive Data De-identification
RDMC offers data de-identification services for research projects that involve human subjects data. De-identification services include initial assessment of deductive disclosure risk; development of an appropriate strategy to mitigate risk while retaining the de-identified data’s analytical value; and recommendations for any necessary access restrictions, data use agreements, or other security measures to protect research participant privacy.
Hourly recharge rate: $120.18
Hourly minimum: varies based on requirements
